Why I tattoo.

I was born and raised in southeast Michigan.  Art, music and skateboarding were my passions.  I was the kid in school who turned in school work with my doodles all over the margins.  Growing up in a culture of labor unions I was always told I wouldn’t be able to make a living doing art or music.  I later found that wasn’t true at all.

As a rebellious teen I was in a few bands in the punk rock scene of the early 90’s in Detroit and as an artist I created all of the bands artwork for demo cds and flyers for shows. Tattoos were just part of it.  I fell in love with the imagery and the idea that it was possible to literally wear your heart on your sleeve!

I realized the politics of the music business just weren’t for me.  After that I spent 10 or 15 years doing construction, mostly framing and roofing. Moving from state to state as I was always the guy who didn’t want to live and die in the same town I was born in.   I continued to draw and paint as a personal hobby.

One day I met a dude named Daniel and he was a tattoo collector from southern California and saw some of my art work and exclaimed… ”you should be doing tattoos, bro!!”  He ended up buying me a tattoo kit from eBay or something as a gift.  I tried it out on a couple of people and quickly realized that this is one of those things you can not learn through trial and error and set out to look for an apprenticeship.

Now years after completing my apprenticeship, I still love tattooing and the idea we have the control to change our bodies to reflect how we feel on the inside. I try everyday to be a better artist and a better person.  I love learning new techniques and will always strive to give the best tattoos I can.
